Need some fresh food to fuel that CrossFit workout

By crossfw8 | In Workout of the Day | on June 15, 2012

What secret is the parking lot of Citi Bank and Hobby Lobby harboring? One of Modesto’s latest places to eat! Subliminally Fresh isn’t quite a taco truck, isn’t quite a sandwich shop. In fact, it’s both.

Subliminally Fresh is the blue truck with the Mario Mushroom on top that you’ve seen driving around Modesto. Subliminally Fresh was founded three months ago by Air Force Veteran Mike Robinson. Together, he and his fellow chef Gary Tuggle are the minds behind the gourmet food truck that specializes in gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads, and freshly made pasta. Mike is a self-proclaimed “fat kid at heart” who after he got out of the Air Force, went to culinary school and began honing his craft creating different kinds of dishes.

A few days ago, Amber and I tried out Subliminally Fresh’s food and got to hear the story behind the name. “Subliminally Fresh” came to Mike out of the blue–he said he just thought it sounded cool. Then, in a fortunate twist of fate, in San Francisco he purchased the big blue truck from a hippie dude selling organic food. He painted the vent up top like a mushroom from Super Mario World, and then that became the logo. Thus, Subliminally Fresh was born.

My sister and I tried out the Basil Pesto Chicken Panini and the verdict on it was that it was “AMAZING”. In case you’re unwilling to take our word for it, Subliminally Fresh will be at the July 7th Helen PR Challenge as the OFFICIAL food vendor of the challenge.

Subliminally Fresh is located in the Hobby Lobby parking lot on McHenry and is sometimes seen at Serrano Social Club on J Street. Mike met Tony a few weeks ago when, after seeing the truck pass by, Tony ran down the street to meet the mind behind the mushroom.

We hope to see everyone at the Helen PR Challenge on Saturday, July 7th to cheer on your fellow CrossFitters and to eat some “subliminally fresh” food.
