Did you know that 70-80% of your body composition is determined by what you eat? That means FOOD is what decides what you look like, not exactly how much you workout.
Is that discouraging or encouraging to you? If ENCOURAGING, it probably means your diet is pretty dialed in. Congratulations. More than half the battle is nutrition!
If the above percentage is DISCOURAGING, then that probably means your diet is not as great as you’d like. That’s okay; the solution is simple. Notice it’s SIMPLE, not easy.
There are three methodologies of nutrition that we have found in our five years of CrossFit that really work for people. They are The Zone, Paleo, and Primal styles of eating. The Zone is characterized mostly by the quantity of what you eat, where Paleo and Primal are characterized by the quality of what you eat. All three are valid and it takes a little bit of experimenting to see which works best for you.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to nutrition.
For the most part though, a good tip before you start any new major lifestyle change is to stick with it for more than just 2-3 days.
Danddy, both a CrossFit and Krav Maga student, had to take a few weeks off due to an injury he got while playing softball. He had changed his diet and began eating paleo a few weeks prior to the incident. The physical changes are noticeable and he PR’d on his clean on Monday by 40# which is quite a feat.
He said that, “The first two weeks are the hardest, but the things I craved in the beginning, I don’t even crave anymore.” He’s been at it now for about two months and he looks great and is performing well too!
You know who inspired him to go paleo? Lola Woods! Great to see you guys helping each other out. Lifestyle changes are hard, but the community can keep you accountable.
