Inflammation in the body is a natural defense and a healthy, normal response to stress, exercise, food, drugs, injury or disease. We can’t avoid inflammation. We are connected and affected by the responses these demands place on our bodies everyday. Simply put, stressors make the body stronger. However, extended or prolonged inflammation can compromise a healthy immune system which will eventually lead to blunted progress in your fitness routine, which makes the body weaker and can lead to more serious conditions like silent inflammation. Check out Dr. Sears link here Dr Sears – A Silent Killer in Our Midst for more information on this important topic. So what is enough inflammation and what’s too much? In the realm of exercise and fitness, over training is one of the quickest paths to exercised induced inflammation. In our world of CrossFit there is a trend to hammer big metcons day in and day out, the body just doesn’t get a chance to recover on that kind of training program and excess inflammation is a result. If getting and staying healthy is your goal you will need to take days where you slow down and take some rests or maybe spend more time on strength and skill work. So put down that glass of CrossFit Kool Aid and give your body some time to rest and recover it will love you for it.
